The Costituzione Italiana is a written, rigid, long, voted, compromising, democratic and programmatic constitution.
The Constitution consists of 139 articles (but 5 articles were repealed: 115; 124; 128; 129; 130), divided into four sections:
Fundamental principles (articles 1-12);
First part: citizens' rights and duties (articles 13-54);
Second part: ordering of the Republic (articles 55-139);
Transitory and final provisions (I-XVIII articles).
The Constitution of the Italian Republic is the fundamental law of the Italian and foundative state of the Italian Republic. It was approved by the Assembly constituting on 22 December 1947 and promulgated by the provisional head of the state Enrico De Nicola on 27 December 1947. It was published in the Official Journal of the Italian Republic n. 298, extraordinary edition, of December 27, 1947 and entered into force on 1 January 1948.
